Mobile Shops and Traders Bylaw - Public Consultation

Council has reviewed the Mobile Shops and Traders Bylaw 2014, and proposes to revoke the Bylaw and replace with a new Mobile Shops and Traders Bylaw 2021.

Similar to the 2014 Bylaw, the proposed Mobile Shops and Traders Bylaw 2021 will require any person or business wanting to engage in mobile trading to obtain a licence from Council.

Council are proposing designated specific locations in Fairlie, Tekapo and Twizel as permanent sites for mobile trading.

The specific sites are:

  • Village Green, Fairlie
  • Denmark Street Greenway, Fairlie
  • Lakeside Drive Carpark, Tekapo
  • Hamilton Drive Carpark, Tekapo
  • Mackenzie Drive Carpark, Twizel

It is proposed that no Mobile Trading Licenses will be granted to operate outside of the designated sites.

To ensure a clear, transparent, and fair processing framework, Council is proposing a new application process and a standard set of conditions which all mobile traders must comply with when operating a mobile shop.
