Committees and Community Boards

Committees

The Audit and Risk Committee’s responsibility is to provide governance and oversight of the effectiveness of risk management and internal control systems, including internal audit and external audit relationships.

The committee is chaired by Bruce Mincham (Independent) and meets on a quarterly basis.

The Commercial and Economic Development Committee’s purpose is to provide governance and oversight in the management of the Council’s commercial activities. This includes investments, real estate, forestry, Pukaki Airport, tourism promotion and economic development.

The committee is chaired by Councillor Murray Cox and meets quarterly.

The Engineering and Services Committee has responsibilities for all Council-owned infrastructure, assets, operations and services.

The purpose is to ensure that Council services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner meeting the needs of the community, and that Council protects its investment in infrastructural assets in accordance with accepted professional standards.

The committee is chaired by Councillor Stuart Barwood and meets quarterly.

The Planning and Regulatory Committee governs all planning and regulatory functions of the Council. This includes the development of bylaws and all resource management, health, sale and supply of alcohol, civil defence/emergency management, parking, legal disputes, animal control, and building functions.

The committee is chaired by Councillor Anne Munro and meets on a six-weekly basis.

The Strategy committee’s purpose is to set the strategic direction for the District by formulating policy that clearly identifies Council’s role and direction on issues.

The Committee will develop, evaluate, approve and monitor the implementation of strategic policy, providing strategic oversight of mid to long term planning.

The committee is chaired by Councillor James Leslie and meets on a quarterly basis.

Under the Mackenzie District Council Standing Orders, committees automatically cease to exist at the end of a Council term.

Community Boards

The Fairlie Community Board consists of four members elected from the local community, and an appointed council member, elected every three years. Various responsibilities are divided among the board members.
