We know that lowering the speed on our roads makes things safer for pedestrians, cyclists, horse-riders. We also know that slower speeds mean that when accidents do happen, less harm is caused.
The Government recently introduced legislation to reduce the speed around schools to 30km/hour to protect children who, as every driver knows, can behave in unpredictable ways.
Council is now asking for your opinion on a draft speed management plan which would see speed limits reduced across our district, with particular emphasis on urban areas. Slower speeds in these areas have been shown to encourage people to use active transport options like walking or cycling.
