The prize recognizes the outstanding contribution Bruce Scott made as a citizen to the Mackenzie District particularly in the fields of agriculture and local government.
Bruce was brought up and farmed on Godley Peaks Station for many years and was a former Councilor, County Chairman and the inaugural Mayor of the Mackenzie District.
The prize is awarded to the senior secondary student of the Mackenzie District who best exhibits sustained effort and application in all that they do and who always demonstrates good citizenship, practical skills and leadership potential.
The prize which is awarded annually, is presented at the final meeting of the Council for the year, and consists of book vouchers up to the value of $250.
