Information relating to Appendix I Site 22 (SSWI reference – The Black Hole / Braemar wetlands)
Request and response:
I am writing to request further information from the Appendix I of the Mackenzie District Plan lists.
Specifically, Site 22: “Braemar … (Braemar Station kettleholes), (Bolton’s Gully Lagoon), (The Black Hole)” and identifies the source as SSWI, referencing “Wildlife and Sites of Special Wildlife Interest in the Upper Waitaki and Adjacent Areas” (Jarman, 1987).
I would like to request a copy of the full Jarman (1987) report referenced in Appendix I
Please find attached* a copy of the document (not the original) however it does have some historic annotations made. As this copy was supplied to us we do not know the source or reason for these annotations.
The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa has this document which is available to view, therefore we recommend putting a request through to them for this (CLICK HERE).
Any specific SSWI site sheets, database extracts, field cards, or assessment notes relating to Site 22 and/or its component wetlands (including The Black Hole).
These documents are contained within the Jarman Report.
The GIS polygon(s) or mapped extent currently used to define Site 22 in the District Plan, including any historic versions if available.
Attached* is the original (historic) notation/ mapped extent for SONS 22 as per the Operative Mackenzie District Plan: Map 23 and the Legend. The current mapped extent can be found in the Eplan: https://mackenzie.isoplan.co.nz/review/property/7040482/0/140?_t=property (Tick the tick box for Sites of Significance on the Lefthand side for the layer to be displayed)
Any subsequent ecological assessments, monitoring reports, or updates that have informed the continued identification of Site 22 as a Site of Natural Significance.
No information is held by council in relation to SONs 22, it is noted that council has recently undertaken a rolling District Plan Review that included sites of significance (SONS). All SONS were carried over under Stage 3 of the District Plan Review, and Plan Change 23 – General Rural Zone, Natural Features and Landscapes – publicly notified 4 November 2023.
* Documents which were attached to the original email are available on request from the LGOIMA officer.
