998 Bridge inventory, inspection and maintenance records

Requested information about bridge inventory, inspection and maintenance records.

I am requesting electronic copies of existing information held by Mackenzie District about bridges and similar bridge structures that the Council owns or manages.

Responses are in blue.

Please provide:

1. The bridge or structure inventory, including the asset name or ID, location, road or track, and structural material where recorded. Please include road, walking and cycling bridges, and any park or reserve bridges in the register. I am interested in structures with steel in their main load-bearing members, such as girders, trusses or primary framing. Please exclude structures where steel is limited to handrails, signs or fittings.

The inspection reports for all Roading Bridges are supplied (via wetransfer due to size).

One replacement, being Bridge #12 (alternative number 13) Coal Pit Road #2, has been completed since the last report was received and contains steel elements. The as-built drawings are supplied.

The Public Facilities, Parks and Places team include the Maclaren Footbridge which is a 125-metre steel-truss pedestrian bridge in Lake Tekapo, opened in 2015. Plans have been included in information being supplied.

All A2O Cycle Bridges under MDC management are wooden in construction.

2. For structures recorded as steel, or where the main structural material is unknown, the available inspection and condition records relating to corrosion, protective coatings, paint condition, or recommendations for repair or recoating.

The inspection reports provided detail the condition records relating to corrosion, protective coatings, paint conditions and/or recommendations for repair or recoating.

3. Available records of coating or painting work, including dates, products or systems used where recorded, surface preparation, repairs, and any known lead-based paint surveys or hazardous-coating information.

All recorded information is contained in the inspection reports.

4. Any current or planned inspections, maintenance, repair, recoating or replacement work for these structures, including project or contract timing where recorded.

There are currently inspections being undertaken and the FYE25/26 report and updated maintenance schedule is yet to be received by Council. These schedules are generated annually, and maintenance work is to be programmed with the contractor once received. One replacement, being Bridge #12 (alternative number 13) Coal Pit Road #2, has been completed since the last report was received.

Please include existing asset-register exports, spreadsheets, reports, inspection records, GIS data or other electronic records that contain this information. I am seeking records already held by the Council; I am not asking the Council to inspect bridges or create a new assessment.
