Candidate nominations confirmed

Mackenzie District Council has confirmed the candidate nominations for the 2025 local elections.

Thirty-one candidates have been nominated across roles for mayor, Council and community boards.

Where the number of candidates exceeds the number of vacancies, elections will be held. Where the number of candidates matches the number of vacancies, those candidates are elected unopposed.

Elections will be held in October for the following roles:

  • Mayor - 5 candidates
  • Council – Pukaki Ward (3 vacancies) – 6 candidates
  • Council – Opuha Ward (3 vacancies) – 5 candidates
  • Council – Tekapo Ward (1 vacancies) – 2 candidates
  • Community Board – Fairlie (4 vacancies) – 6 candidates

The following candidates will be elected unopposed:

  • Community Board – Tekapo (4 vacancies)
    • Barbara Nustrini
    • Anna Roseingrave
    • Brent Swanson
    • Simon Tocker
  • Community Board – Twizel (4 vacancies)
    • Tony Hodges
    • Mary Murdoch
    • Katrina Te Rito

A later by-election will be held for

  • Community Board – Twizel – one position

Voting papers will be mailed to all enrolled voters from 8 September and must be returned by 12 noon, Saturday 11 October.
