At the council meeting on Tuesday 26 August, Councillors made the following decisions:
MOU with the Kimbell Residents Parklands Association
They approved the MOU with the Kimbell Residents Parklands Association for an access track, memorial site and recreational area within the Dobson Forest block to enable access to the historical memorial to Leila Georgeson, the sister of Bill Hamilton (who developed the modern jet-boat). (Page 78 of the meeting agenda.)
Fairlie Forest Replanting
Fairlie Forest is a 7.1 hectare area in the Allandale industrial area in Fairlie. The trees on the block were harvested in 2024, and this week Councillors decided not to replant with trees so that the land can be available for future industrial use. This would be consistent with its zoning in the District Plan. (Page 84 of the meeting agenda.)
Tekapo Trails Funding
They approved a grant of up to $20,000 to support the Tekapo Trails Society in constructing an off-road trail alongside Godley Peaks Road between Lake Alexandrina South Road exit and the Peninsular carpark. The funds are to come from the Lake Alexandrina Reserve Fund. This decision also had the support of the Lake Tekapo Community Board. (Page 100 of the meeting agenda.)
Water Services Delivery Plan
Councillors voted to approve the Water Services Delivery Plan for an future in-house business unit to deliver water services in Mackenzie. The plan outlines how water services will be delivered and financed in a manner that is compliant with the Government’s Local Water Done Well reforms. The Government requires a plan that also complies with the legislation for meeting drinking and wastewater standards, and which is financially sustainable. It will be submitted to the Department of Internal Affairs by 3 September 2025 as required. Page 106 of the meeting agenda.)
