Water Services and Parks & Recreation Services

Council’s contract with Whitestone ended on 30th June 2025. We extend our gratitude to the Whitestone staff and management that have served our community for a considerable period of time.

Water Services

To mitigate cost increases and for a variety of reasons, Council have agreed to bring the operation of the Three Waters water and wastewater treatment and reticulation services in-house. We are delighted that the majority of the water services team have decided to join Mackenzie District Council from 1 July 2025.

The same level of service will be provided by the in-house water team, who will be working from the current locations in Twizel and Fairlie.

Parks & Recreation Maintenance

The tender to provide parks and recreation services closed on 12 June and the contract has been awarded to Corde who specialise in contracting and maintenance services across the South Island of New Zealand.

Corde will take some time to establish their operations in Mackenzie. Transitional arrangements are in place to ensure that critical services including toilet cleaning, emptying of litter bins and sexton services can continue until the new contract is fully operational. Contractors are also available to assist in the event of any adverse weather events and cleanup operations.

During this period, there may be slight delays in actioning requests for service - we will attend to issues as quickly as we are able.

We request your patience and understanding while we work through the interim period.

Customers can continue to report issues to council in the usual way – via our website, in person at one of our offices, or by calling us on 03 685 9010.
