At the final Council meeting of this triennium, the Mackenzie District Council resolved that South Canterbury would observe South Canterbury Anniversary Day on November 11, 2022, which is Canterbury Anniversary Day.
This follows the Government announcement of Monday 26 September as Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day.
Councillors were presented with the results of a survey which asked whether South Canterbury residents supported moving the day. More than 8,200 replied, with 86.3% agreeing with the proposal.
The proposal to move the day covers the 2022 holiday only, with next year’s South Canterbury Anniversary Day being held on Monday 25 September 2023.
It would now be up to MBIE to make the appropriate arrangements.
