🔺Good Morning Mackenzie🔺 Although many of us had a relatively quiet night, the MetService red warning for our district remains in place.
It is possible the worst of the wather has missed us. However it is also possible that it is tracking slower than expected and is still on its way.
We expect an update from the MetService later this morning. Until then, our advice remains the same:
A RED Strong Wind Warning for the Canterbury high country means we should expect to see:
- Power outages
- Road closures
- Damage to trees and structures
Please plan your travel. If at all possible postpone your journey until after the winds drop.
We are also under an orange warning for rain into the headwaters of our lakes and rivers. Avoid low-lying areas and be cautious around our rivers and lakes. Stay updated with Environment Canterbury.
Some things you can do now:
- 🔺Charge your devices and prepare for possible power outages.
- 🔺Secure trampolines, outdoor furniture, and bins.
- 🔺If you’ve had an outdoor fire recently, check it’s completely out and cold to the touch.
- 🔺Avoid lighting any new fires or using gas cookers outside.
- 🔺Stay away from places where there are large trees.
- 🔺Consider adjusting travel plans you have leading into the long weekend. Keep up to date NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi - Canterbury & West Coast.
- 🔺If at any time you, your family and/or your property are at risk, immediately contact emergency services on 111.
