The Albury Rural Water Supply Treatment Plant experienced two split chlorine line incidents on Thursday 28 August and Sunday 31 August. As a result, some untreated water entered the supply network. The affected chlorine line is scheduled for replacement on Monday 1 September.
As a precaution, a boil water notice has been issued for all users on the Albury Rural Water Supply network. While the untreated water moves through the system, water quality testing will be conducted on Thursday 4 September, Monday 8 September, and Wednesday 10 September. These tests will assess the presence of E. coli and chlorine levels.

What this means
All residents connected to the Albury Rural Water Scheme are advised to boil their drinking water until further notice.
What you need to do
- Boil all water for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth, and washing produce.
- Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute, then allow to cool before using.
- Alternatively, use bottled water.
- Unboiled water can still be used for showering, bathing, and other household uses, but avoid swallowing the water.
- Supervise children when using water.
Why this is necessary
The boil water notice is a precautionary measure because of a treatment plant fault means there is untreated water in the network.
How long will this last?
The notice will remain in place until water testing shows that the supply is safe again. Updates will be provided through:
- Mackenzie District Council’s Website
- Updates to the post on Council's facebook page.
