Peace tree work

For the week of 8 December we will be undertaking our yearly maintenance on the Peace Tree avenue.

This work will consist mainly of managing the ‘epicormic’ growth around and up the trunks of the trees and will be managed by the arborist team at CORDE, Council’s contractor.

The work will start at the Strathconan Stream bridge, heading into Fairlie (up to the toilets) then heading out of Fairlie towards Kimbell.

Epicormic growth is the name given to the new shoots that grow out of the base of the trunk or branches of a tree, we often remove this type of growth for the health of the tree, and to prevent it obstructing pathways, roadways etc. Cutting epicormic growth helps prevent the tree from spending too much energy on new growth that not be beneficial for it.
