Weather Event - 24-10-2025

While the worst of yesterday’s wind missed the Mackenzie District, we still experienced some pretty wild weather! Heavy rainfall has caused some damage to roads, and the wind has felled and damaged a number of trees.

  • Glen Lyon Ford is being cleared of debris this morning.
  • Mt Cook Station Road remains closed and has suffered.significant damage - we will advise when a repair plan is in place.
  • Some tree limbs may have been weakened by the wind, and we advise that you stay away from larger trees in council’s parks and reserves for a few days until we’ve been able to check them for safety.
  • Crews will be out inspecting assets today, but we are a small team, and it will take some time for us to fully assess the extent of damage.
  • If you’re aware of damaged council-maintained infrastructure, please let us know so we can ensure our teams aware.

You can contact us by email at info@mackenzie.govt.nz, on 03 685 9010 or by calling in to one of our offices in Twizel or Fairlie. We appreciate your patience while we organise the clean-up and repairs.
