Over the weekend and this week so far snow and heavy rain has affected much of the district. Council’s staff and contractors have been dealing with the impacts on our services.
Local Road Closures
The following council roads are now closed:
- Mackenzie Pass
- Hakataramea Pass
- Godley Peaks Road
- Braemar Road.
Closed roads
Please do not drive on closed roads, even if you are confident in the capabilities of your 4WD. And, if you have an accident while you are driving on a closed road, you may not be insured.
Mackenzie often experiences some of the worst driving conditions in the country. Ideally, if you can, please avoid travelling on the roads in bad weather.
If you must travel, there are some things you can do to prepare:
- fully charge your phone before you travel,
- stock your car for an emergency with items like blankets, gloves, hats, torches, first aid kit, tools, snacks and drinks,
- always carry a plastic window ice scraper.
