Public notice is hereby given that at an ordinary Council meeting held on 28 March 2023, the Mackenzie District Council formally approved Plan Change 20 to the Mackenzie District Plan in accordance with Clause 17(1) of the First Schedule to the Resource Management Act 1991 (the Act).
Plan Change 20 is Stage 1 of the review and replaces the following sections of the Mackenzie District Plan:
- Section 1 – Introduction
- Section 2 – Policy and Legal
- Section 3 – Definitions (in part)
- Section 4 – Takata Whenua
The Plan Change has been drafted in accordance with the National Planning Standards and incorporates the following components:
Part 1 – Introduction and General Provisions
- Introduction
- How the Plan Works
- Interpretation (in part)
- National Direction Instruments
- Tangata Whenua/Mana Whenua
Part 2 – District-wide Matters
- Strategic Direction

Plan Change 20 was publicly notified on 15 July 2022. Notice of the Independent Hearing Panels decision on Plan Change 20 was given on 19 December 2022. No appeals to the Environment Court were lodged.
The operative Mackenzie District Plan is available for viewing, and free to download, from the Mackenzie District Council website.
