Te Manahuna Ki Uta - Destination Mackenzie

Te Manahuna Ki Uta / Destination Mackenzie is a multi-partner strategic plan for the Mackenzie District led by Mackenzie District Council. During development our treaty partner was a crucial part of the project and the work was informed by mana whenua values and aspirations.

The project delivered a Destination Management Plan for the Te Manahuna / Mackenzie District as part of a wider tourism journey that included Aoraki Mt Cook National Park, the upper Waitaki Valley and the Lindis Pass.

The Destination Management Plan outlined a coordinated approach to the management of all the elements that contribute to a visitor's experience and aims to create a sustainable and resilient tourism eco-system for the benefit of the local community.

The Plan has a vision for the next one hundred years and a planning horizon of 30-50 years. It was funded by a grant of $711,000 from the Provincial Growth Fund (MBIE) for destination planning in collaboration with DOC.
