WEATHER EVENT UPDATE 6 July 2026

Over the weekend snow and heavy rain has affected much of the district. Council’s staff and contractors have been dealing with the impacts on our services.

At this stage, State Highway 8 is closed between Pukaki and Fairlie. As at 8.44am there was no published expected opening time. Updates can be found on NZTA’s website - link at the bottom of this post.

Council roads remain open, but we remind everyone of the need to drive with caution and be prepared for winter conditions, including:

  • fully charge your phone before you travel,
  • stock your car for an emergency with items like blankets, gloves, hats, torches, first aid kit, tools, snacks and drinks,
  • always carry a plastic window ice scraper.
Report a problem

If you want to report a problem with any of our services , remember you can call our after-hours number at any time: 0800 685 8514. If your issue is not urgent, you can also use MyMDC to report a problem from your phone - mackenzie.govt.nz/mymdc

Closed Roads
