Twizel MDC Service Centre & NZ Post Agency Accessibility Upgrade

Work will be underway soon on the pathway outside MDC Twizel Service Centre and NZ Post Agency, to improve accessibility to Twizel Town Centre from the Market Place Carpark.

Fairlie Dog Park opened

The new Fairlie Dog Park is now open and available for use. You can find it next to the picnic area beside Allandale Bridge, access off Allandale Rd/SH79 on the Geraldine side of the bridge.

Civil Defence session at Tekapo

On December 1 2022, 34 representatives from Police, FENZ, St John, LandSAR, Mackenzie Lakes Coastguard, Lake Tekapo Civil Defence Welfare Team, Mackenzie District Council Civil Defence and the Lake Tekapo Lions group attended a workshop at the Lake Tekapo Community Hall to plan a multi-agency and community response to a developing incident.

Fairlie Cemetery tree management

From Monday 5 December 2022, we will be starting work in the Fairlie cemetery to remove three trees that have been identified as posing a risk to the cemetery infrastructure and to people visiting the cemetery.

Tekapo lake-front path upgrades

At the Economic Development New Zealand awards gala dinner on 13 October Mackenzie District Council were awarded a Commendation Award for Business Recovery Support, for their project supporting the district’s business community during the disruption of the COVID pandemic.

The Te Manahuna Ki Uta (TMKU) /Destination Mackenzie Project has developed a long-term strategic Destination Management Plan for the Te Manahuna/ Mackenzie District as part of a wider tourism journey that includes Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park, the upper Waitaki Valley and the Lindis Pass.

On October 4 2022 Council staff from Waimate, Timaru and Mackenzie District Councils took part in a training session to prepare them for working together in an emergency.

Council's roading contractors were busy over Monday 13 June clearing roads throughout the district affected by overnight snowfalls.

Carbon Friendly Footpath Assessment Process

Footpath assessments are taking place in Twizel and Tekapo over late May and early June. Using electric bikes, staff from Council's Engineering team, and Council's roading contractors Fulton Hogan were able to save carbon by reducing vehicle use, the bikes considered to be more versatile for this purpose than larger petrol or diesel powered vehicles.
